We are proud members of the Barbara Smith Caring Circle.
The Barbara Smith Caring Circle is a collective, intergenerational movement to support the work and life of our hero and Black feminist icon, Barbara Smith, who turned 70 years old in 2016. As a culture-creator and movement-maker who dedicates her life to ending oppression and uplifting young people through education and mentorship, Barbara has made a life of giving, and now it is time for us, the many of us who have found our own voices in her words and her work, to lead by her example: by giving. Visit the online campaign to learn more about joining the Barbara Smith Caring Circle.
Kitchen Table Literary Arts Center builds awareness, appreciation, and support for women of color writers, poets, and their work.
We specialize in building appreciation and sustained support for women of color literary artists and their work by creating opportunities to re-discover the work of our ground-breaking, visionary ancestors and elders. We work to discover and develop new poets, writers, and readers through workshops, seminars, and showcases that investigate the intersections of our past and present voices by featuring the work and experiences of contemporary women of color writers and poets.
