a voice, a light: protest poetry showcase
Poetry has always been a powerful tool to call out injustice, amplify marginalized voices, and fight oppression. Silence is not an option, and speaking truth to power is essential to inciting change.
With the support of The Poetry Foundation, Kitchen Table Literary Arts presents four dynamic poets whose work explores the intersections of the personal and political.
St. Petersburg Poet Laureate, Gloria Muñoz, is joined by FLorida-based poets Jasmin Lankford, Blac Jak, and Tiffany Vitale for an evening of protest poetry and a post-show talk-back for audience members to engage with the poets and reflect on the performances.

All donation-based ticket sales will be donated to THE DREAM DEFENDERS, who work tirelessly to abolish systems of oppression in Florida and around the world:
From Dream Defenders: "We believe in the solidarity of oppressed groups around the world. No one can be free until we’re all free. We stand with oppressed peoples internationally and fight against all forms of racism and hate – anti-semitism, islamophobia, transphobia and sexism. At our very first march from Daytona to the Sanford Police Department, our co-founders waved a Palestinian flag. This is because we know that although our oppression might not look the same, we are being exploited by the same systems and that in order to tear them down, we must come together. The same corporations that are building walls between Mexico and the US, are building walls in the West Bank. The same tear gas used in Ferguson is also used at the Mexico Border in Standing Rock and in Palestine. Our fight is one." |
