More than ever, poetic storytelling captures the essence of humanity through expressing our shared connections and individual experiences. This class will explore poetic storytelling in various multimedia formats such as film, television, text, music and visual art. We will focus on what makes storytelling "poetic" and the foundational aspects of how this medium can be channeled into accessible formats and expressions, through our studies, discussion and writing.

How do you write a memoir that captures the attention of today's agents, publishers and readers? In this 6-week generative writing class, we're going to look at the modern memoirs that define the genre and show you how to make your story matter to others while also maintaining your authentic voice and experiences. We'll study writers like Kiese Laymon, Terese Mailhot, Carmen Marie Machado and Jesmyn Ward.

Enjoy the best of both worlds as we navigate the special space that is speculative poetry. Through prompts, appreciation, exercises, and discussion we’ll write new worlds and words to explore fresh versions of ourselves and others, generate alternative realities, and rediscover old truths. Come together to hang out beyond familiar boundaries for four fun weeks, two hours of uncanny at a time.
Fantasy, science fiction, the weird, horror, magical realism, experimental, dystopian, utopian, all the punks (solar, steam, cyber, etc.), alternative history, interstitial, hopecore and more—all are welcome.
Bring all you imagine and leave with more than had.
